Facebook Makes Big Changes to Advertising Options

It seems as if the "like" button is quickly becoming the most powerful media tool. What the....???  Is this a good or bad thing?  Why is it okay to "like" something, but we're not allowed to "hate" something?  Click to the link  below:

  1. Just like every other change that facebook makes people are either going to love it or hate it, and will have to live with it. I think it will become natural and unnoticed eventually. They should really make a dislike button system like Youtube does to see if the advertising ideas are working, and if not, change it.

  2. its okay to like something because its not rude and usually it just means someone agrees with your status or thinks your photo's cute, but if you were to upload a photo and there was a "hate" button that would be pretty friggin rude to click hate.

  3. Agree 100%. However, if I don't press like on a picture, is it assumed I hate it? In other words, if I post a picture of my family on Facebook, and my 200 "friends" see it, but only 2 click the "like" button, can I assume my other 198 friends hate or dislike my picture?

  4. I think the like button for advertising is just a way to grab peoples attention & to help their marketing, on Facebook we have all these stores we shop on , we have tanning salons, we have music artists page, it's a way to stay more connected and updated, because media is becoming the biggest source of communication its no longer talking on the phone so much and telling your friends or family about the trip you just went on or how your weekend was, we log onto Facebook and see everyone's life, some people we pay more attention to than others some people aren't even our friends their acquaitances, so i think a like is more reconization, or you think someones picture is cute, or you think a picture is cool, either one sometimes people even press "like" to get ones attention if your friends with someone you don't like, you "like" it why? its more of an awareness thing like hii I see this! its not so much the people that don't press like, hate it, its maybe they just don't care much to press like. in advertising, like is popular because when a store has a sale, or they have a new promotion by liking it we see it on our news feed which is beneficial to the market because Facebook is so popular we are more guarantee to see what they are promoting and if we like what they are promoting well go check it out and buy something, and were more likely to go in after seeing something we are definite to like then taking a shot in the dark and just going to "check it out"

  5. i think the reason we are not aloud to hate or (dislike) something is because people will began to alienate people by dislikeing certain things or by not liking things that other people don't . and for some stupid reason teenagers like to start little kid drama .. could you imagine the " DRAMA" haha

  6. I think the reason the for the like button is because its a way to grab people attention for advertising, and its a way for people to like things, to show other people what you like. Also its a way for people to compare similarities and likes with each other.

  7. i think this is a good thing in a way. companys will be able to advertise their products to people that shop online, and it will open eyes to some poeple that dont know about the product or company. but i think some people that use facebook wont like this change, they wont want ads on there newsfeeds everyday when they are trying to find their friends, it will get annoying to some people. and its my friends likeing these companys/ads its their interests not mine so i wont want them to pop-up on my newsfeeds.
AND i think we are not allowed to "dislike" things because it will cause drama, but i think we should be able to because we can say the truth and be honest.

  8. Advertising has come along way and have obviously been over Facebook for quite awhile now.Personally i feel that the "like" button is a way to agree with someone or show that you think well of someones photo.Recently it has become a very big media tool and all advertisement is obviously taking advantage of it . Most sites you are on, at the bottom of the page it usually has a "like" button following with a few others also. Ironically enough i had been thinking about a dislike button the other day, it seems that the reason behind not having a "dislike" button is it would discriminate people and judge them about the way they are and feel. It would obviously cause pointless arguments that are completely avoidable . I understand on advertisements but on the whole Facebook layout and everyone's profile it would just be many problems waiting to occure.

  9. Advertising is a very strange form in way's that it could specifically misread or judge and put in a form that is not correct.Could also say its not fair in ways that it only allows one opinion or judgment. For the Facebook act of the like button dosn't seem to have much an effect but to allow the sellers etc.. to have a piece of mind on their products and concerns.Does hitting a button really help anything in the matter? No i would say not, as there are curtain ares where we should be or need to or can take action if you think the click of a button is gonna change something, well there must be something wrong.I have to argue that even though we all think a like button is all good and having a hate button which by the way i would say a dislike button would be more respectful they both can have their downfalls and arguments in ways.People don't necessarily want to hear what is bad or wrong or negative all the time.
